Communities seek a sense of their identity, rooted in time and space. Public artworks key on this need, creating a metaphor that fuses a vision of past history with our vision of where we’re going.
In this talk I will share how Placemaking is central to my life and art practice.

In 2026 I was awarded a public art project for Historical Park Markers – providing 7 informational kiosks with display cases for the City of Milpitas, working closely with City Staff and the Milpitas Historical Society.

On Friday, May 8 2026, Mary White and I enjoyed revisiting our sculptures in Mountain View when they were featured at a Technology symposium for 20 companies from Taiwan. You couldn't ask for a better audience to appreciate the history of the Silicon Valley. It was great to see Jacques and Andrus again. They were the former Shockley Engineers who got the ball rolling for this project.
Now, 10 years later, the Villages development has completely changed the urban landscape, but a small but important piece of local history is preserved. More information on this project completed in 2018 here.
